All of us need to answer questions all the time. Clearly factual questions are easy, one knows the answer or not. However, most questions are not well-formed. So how do one make sure that you consider the question from a holistic perspective?
While detail will differ for every question, I believe in using framework as a starting point. In the last several years I developed my framework for thinking about complex questions, specifically if they need action from my side. The framework has its roots in the IDEF0 modeling method, although it now looks nothing like it, and has nothing to do with functional descriptions anymore. Fighting the e-mail monster… (round 2)
July 12, 2010Well round 1 has been paying off… my habits are not perfect yet, nor is my mechanisms perfect, but I feel I have more control over my e-mail than 6 months ago. However, I still spend way too much time on e-mail. So ROUND 2… here I come!

Fighting the e-mail monster… (round 1)
July 11, 2010After having been on leave for four weeks, and for at least 2 of those weeks having very minimal e-mail access I came to the conclusion that e-mail is suffocating me and that I need to break loose… Actually I came to this conclusion after every holiday, but decided to fight it after last Christmas break…
