Officially, I am a professor in Information Technology at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. At home, I am just another fat guy addicted to computers and technology.
What is my interests?
Wow, this is more difficult to answer than what I imagined when typing the heading. My interest are wide and some would say fairly diverse. In general I am principally interested in technology, with a strong secondary interest in anything design. Being in academia it is sort of expected to have some expertise – well, my PhD was on access control in workflow environments; interpret that in whichever way make you happy. My focus on security has waned somehow, although it will probably never ga away.
Currently if I read for general interest I mainly focus on “service design” in an end-to-end way: technically for performance, extensibility and scalability, but also more socially from a user experience perspective. He-he, maybe its the easy way out since it covers just about anything, from low-level network protocols to user interface design.
My qualifications
I hold a PhD in Computer Science from Rand Afrikaans University (now known as University of Johannesburg). I obtained my MSc(Computer Science) from the same institution, while doing my initial degrees BSc and BSc(Hons) at the former University of Port Elizabeth (now my employer NMMU – Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University)
I am also a certified IT Service Manager. Currently I am doing a post-graduate certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE).
